Independent citizens’ platform · not an official website of the European Union or of any government body

About us

Who are we, and how do we work?

OpenDemocratie explains in plain language what parliaments and governments decide and spend. You can give your own opinion and compare it with what parliament voted.

Who makes OpenDemocratie?

OpenDemocratie is an independent citizens’ project. We are not a government or a political party, we show no advertising and we never sell personal data.

How we stay neutral

  • We do not support any party and do not give voting advice. We never say what is good or bad.
  • Every proposal is treated the same way, whichever party or government it comes from. We collect them all automatically from the official sources; we do not pick any.
  • We show how political groups and countries vote, not how one individual politician votes. That way it is about the content and not about people.
  • The questions we ask citizens are first checked for neutrality: no leading words, and always the option to stay neutral.
  • We do not accept money from political parties, candidates or governments that we follow.
  • Citizens’ votes are not a poll: people who vote here do so of their own accord. We always say so, and we never show small groups (fewer than 50 people).
  • Still see something that is not neutral? Let us know using the form below. We will change it.

How the AI summaries are made

Official texts are often long and difficult. That is why an AI (Google Gemini) summarises them in plain language. This is how it works:

  1. The AI only receives the official text from parliament, nothing else: no news, no opinions.
  2. Each time it gets the same fixed instruction: short, neutral, in plain language, without saying whether the proposal is good or bad, and without names of people.
  3. Every summary states that it was made by an AI, with a link to the official text. The official text is always the correct one.
  4. Is a summary not right? Under each summary there is a button to report it. We check every report and improve the text.

The AI never receives data about you or about how you voted.

How we are funded

At the moment OpenDemocratie runs on its own funds. We show no advertising and sell no data.
